ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Chemistry inducted its first batch of Post graduate students in March 2009. Semester teaching and evaluation is scheduled according to the academic calendar. The sanctioned faculty strength is 7 and the student intake capacity is 21.
Ongoing Projects
Synthesis of different transition metal doped titanium dioxide MxNbxTi1-2xO2-x/2 (M = Cr, Fe; where x = 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2) nanocatalysts and studied their Photocatalytic properties: supported by Department of Science and Technology under FAST TRACK Scheme for Young Scientists (PI: Tanmay Kumar Ghorai)
Synthesis of C2-symmetric cyclic nucleosides starting from carbohydrate precursor: supported by Department of Science and Technology under FAST TRACK Scheme for Young Scientists (PI: Jhimli Sengupta)

Departmental Update
Several students from the very first batch of the department have qualified in the NET-CSIR (Junior Research Fellowship/Lectureship) examination. A collaboration with the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universite de Strasbourg, France has opened up a scope for the outstanding post-graduate students of the department of chemistry to carry out research projects in the Laboratoire de Biophotonique et de Pharmacologie, Universite de Strasbourg.
