Completed/Ongoing Research Projects

Kausik Bandyopadhyay:

1. Research project (ongoing) entitled “Interrogating Indian Exceptionalism: India and the Olympic Movement” (co-investigator: Ronojoy Sen), funded by the Olympic Solidarity, International Olympic Committee, Lausanne, Switzerland for the period January 2010 – February 2011).
2. Research project (completed) on “Sport, Culture, National Identity and Regional Cooperation in South Asia” at the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata, funded by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, from 6 March 2006 to 27 January 2009.

Seminars/Conferences/Special Lectures Organized

1. Seminar on Bengal – Presidency, Province, State and Country (1764 to present times) held on 6 May 2009 at 1.45 p.m. at the West Bengal State University, Barasat Government College Annex Building, Barasat. The speakers were: Prof. Bhaskar Chakraborty, Centenary Professor of International Relations, University of Calcutta; Prof. Arun Bandopadhyay, Nurul Hasan Professor of History, University of Calcutta; and Prof. Debes Ray, eminent literateur and Guest Professor, West Bengal State University.
2. Special lecture by Dr. Raziuddin Aquil, Fellow, Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Kolkata on Sufism in Indian History held in the History Class Room of the University on 11 August 2009 at 12 noon.
3. Special lecture by Dr. Boria Majumdar, Senior Research Fellow, University of Central Lancashire on Indian Sport: Poised for a Take-Off held in the Life Sciences Class Room of the University on 27 August 2009 at 12 noon.
4. Special lecture by Mr. Govinda Bhattacharjee, physicist and author, on Evolution and Darwin held in the Life Sciences Class Room of the University on 1 September 2009 at 2 p.m.
5. Special Lecture by Dr. Arvind Sinha, Centre for Social Sciences, JNU, New Delhi, on Reflections on French History held in the History Class Room, on 25 October 2009 at 3 p.m.
6. Seminar session on Sport, Culture, Gender in Modern India held on 26 November 2009 at 2 p.m. in the University Seminar Hall. The speakers included: Shri Amitava Chatterjee, Panchokot Mahavidyalaya, Purulia and Shri Subhransu Roy, Research scholar, Rabindra Bharati University.
7. Special Lecture by Prof. Muntassir Mamoon, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Bangladesh: Today and Tomorrow held in the History Class Room, on 12 January 2010 at 1.30 p.m.
8. Special Lecture by Dr. Supriya Munshi, Director, Gandhi Memorial Museum, Barrackpore on Gandhi in the Eyes of Tagore held in the University Seminar Hall on 17 February 2010 at 1.30 p.m.
9. Seminar session on Partition of India and Refugee Experience in West Bengal in the History Class Room, 1st Floor on 24 February 2010. The speakers included: Ms. Sutapa Dasgupta, St. Paul’s College and Ms. Tista Das, Hooghly Mohsin College.
