She is a post graduate fellow of Department of Psychology, Delhi University. She is a Certified Behaviour Counsellor from Parivartan, a Counseling & Training organization at Bangalore. She engages in Provisional Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analysis (in psychotherapy) with affiliation from the International Transactional Analysis Association. She is also qualified in Neuro Linguistic Programming. With over 4000 hours of one to one Behavioural  Counseling/therapy  over a span of 13 years, Smt. Rao specializes in handling  emotional issues of individuals in distress. She even supervises group therapy and training and school outreach programmes. Currently she works as a Consultant at the Apollo Clinic, is attached with Mentaid- school for the mentally challenged children, working with parents and providing training for teachers on personal growth and self-development. She is the Consultant Psychotherapist at First Source- call centre with 1700 employees.

She instructs students of WBSU on Transaction Analysis.
