ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Department of Statistics initially established from the very childhood days of the West Bengal State University in 2008, has its roots to the days of the university in the Barasat Govt. College. The fast changing technological scenario poses a challenge to the University to provide state-of-the-art educa- tion to the students, to be better prepared for tomorrow. The Department of Statistics at West Bengal State University has continually been striving for excellence in teaching and research. The department has established itself, since the inception of the University, as one of the reputed departments in the University.

COURSES OFFERED

M. Sc. in Statistics of two years duration consisting of four semesters, M.Phil in Statistics and Ph.D. in Statistics.

Activities

Organized one- day- workshop Statistical Computing with R on March 23, 2009 to make the participants aware of the power of R in Data Ma- nipulation, Numerical Calculation, Scientic Programming & Graphi- cal Display.

Organized one-day-seminar Recent Advances In Applied Statistics on July 28, 2010 with distinguished faculty members of dierent Univer- sities (Indian & Abroad) , Institutes and Undergraduate Colleges with an aim to explore the recent elds, suitable for statistical applications.
